You know the constant struggle of finding something to do in South Jersey with your kids on the weekend that isn’t going to break the bank?? (Actually, if you check our calendar frequently, you *shouldn’t* have that problem…just saying!) You want something fun, something that’ll get some of their seemingly endless energy out (oh, if we could just bottle up a LITTLE bit of it for ourselves), and, if possible, something that’ll teach them a positive lesson or two and help them to become awesome little productive members of society. That’s a pretty tall order, right? But, you know what? The Healthy Kids Running Series in Haddonfield at the Crows Woods Fields could be just the event you’ve been looking for! Read on, grasshopper, read on.
Starting in March, kids ages 2 through 8th grade, will be able to participate in a friendly, weekly race at Crows Woods Fields in Haddonfield through the Healthy Kids Running Series program. This nationwide program hosts races with a mission to “engage communities and families by providing an inclusive youth running experience, inspiring kids to believe in themselves and lead an active healthy lifestyle.” Annually, this series impacts more than 60,000 youth runners in over 300 communities across the United States. Pretty sweet, right?
Last year, my two boys participated in the Spring running series and they had a blast! Every Sunday, for 5 weeks, we drove to Crows Woods Fields and the boys ran races in our age group. Now, because the running distance is determined by age, Big Dude did have to run further than Little Dude. He wasn’t very happy about that, but I honestly think knowing he ran a longer distance made his feeling of accomplishment even greater. The Mister and I would stand on the sidelines and cheer ALL the kids on (it’s like we were all one big, happy family) as they reached the final distance and crossed the finish line. It was obvious how proud all the kids were when they finished their race. Some of them had smiles on their faces, some of them were crying, some of them looked plain exhausted, but each and every one of them was proud of their achievement. It was awesome and made my mama heart so so happy.
