Hey, South Jersey! Don’t be a stranger!
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
At this point in my life, I’ve had a pretty public social media presence for about 3 years. Prior to blogging for South Jersey Family, I had run quite a few businesses, spanning about 7 years or so, including a fairly successful home clothing business (the brand will not be named, but I’m sure you’ve heard of them). I had a Facebook group of about three thousand people, from all over the nation, who would shop my inventory and often join me for live sales on Facebook. It was lots of work, but still tons of fun and pretty neat to be able to interact with, and impact, so many people across the distances. Now, with the blog, I publish parts of my personal life on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and on the blog. I share photos of my boys, have published very personal experiences, and have given a number of reviews and recommendations. This time, though, instead of catering to a following that spans the nation, my following is more local since the blog focuses on serving the South Jersey (and surrounding) area. I absolutely love owning and running this blog. It’s pretty surreal to know that my experiences and recommendations are able to (hopefully) make a difference in the lives of South Jersey families. I have a number of blogging friends and, for the most part, they blog for the same reasons: they want to make a positive impact on the world around them by sharing their experiences, their tips, their tricks. Sweet, right? South Jersey Family Blog
One of my favorite parts of blogging is being able to get out of the house and experience new things. A new attraction opening? You can bet that I’ll do my best to be there. A family and budget-friendly activity going on? Not only will I attend, but I’ll also blog about it! I’m all about finding great deals and sharing them with my community. You KNOW I’m always on the hunt for a good deal and can often be found walking along the clearance end-caps of local Targets. One thing that all these places have in common? People. Every single one of them will most likely have a number of people there.
You know how it goes when you’re out somewhere and you see a person, you recognize the face, but you just can’t remember their name? Drives me CRAZY! It’s like mom brain has completely taken over (let’s be honest, though, it took over a loooooooong time ago) and I can’t remember a darn thing. Or, you remember WHO the person is, but you don’t want to bother them by saying “hi”? Sometimes that person has even made eye contact with you? Makes for some awkward situations and possibly missed opportunities, right?
You guys. I’m not writing this for purely selfish reasons, I promise. BUT, if you do happen to be out and about, and you do see me – say “hi!” I’m willing to bet the same goes for other bloggers. We live our lives in the public eye, so we totally won’t be surprised if someone takes the time to say “hi.” Honestly, it could quite possibly brighten the heck out of my day (that’s a good thing) if someone stopped to say “hi” to me. It’s way less awkward and uncomfortable than having someone just stare at me! South Jersey Family Blog
Remember when I wrote that article on visiting Philadelphia for the Christmas season? It’s one of our favorite, and most anticipated, days of the year. We all hop on the train and enjoy a day full of holiday fun. It’s a blast. Well, this past year, we were all in Macy’s, right after the light show had finished, and I was approached by someone. It went something like…
“You’re the one that writes South Jersey Family, right?”
“Yes!!! That’s me!”
“I love your blog! Thank you so much for posting about this show. My family had so much fun!”
And, just like that, I was pretty much speechless. I literally just said something like “oh, awesome! I’m so glad!” I DIDN’T EVEN ASK WHAT HER NAME WAS!!! (If that was you, I am sorry!!) Just having that one person tell me that she read my blog absolutely made my day…no, made my week! Seriously, just knowing that there was someone out there who actually noticed what I was doing and knowing that it was benefiting a family in some way…it was awesome. It brought a huge smile to my face, added a little pep to my step, and provided some inspiration and “oomph” to work even harder on the blog.
Holy moly, I’ve probably run off on a tangent here. You know that I love to tell stories, so it probably hasn’t come to a surprise, but…moral of my story: say “hi” to people. Especially if you know, or THINK you know, that person. If anything, it’ll brighten up their day and we could all use a little of that.
Now, I’m off to check out what’s new around South Jersey. See you around!!
